5 Simple things to help improve your health

 

When it comes to our health and fitness goals, sometimes we just over complicate it.

 

With everything on TV, social media, etc. It’s no wonder.

 

With being in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years there are a few things that remain constant when it comes to your health and fitness.

 

These should always be at the core of your health.

 

And if you are just starting on your health and fitness journey, start with small steps like these.  

 

Water

 

Water first!!

 

This phrase has always stuck with me so get this phrase in your head.

 

Water is vital when it comes to body function.

 

Your body needs water!

 

You should be drinking half your bodyweight in ounces for it to be running right, but also when you drink it can make a huge impact and if you have a hard time getting water in like me then follow this schedule.  It has helped me stay on track with getting my water in.

 

8 to 16 oz of water first thing in the morning just to get your metabolism and digestive tract going. This will work so much better than coffee when it comes to energy as well. I am a coffee junkie and when I started drinking my water before my coffee there was a much better improvement with my bowel movements and energy.

 

8 to 16 oz before every meal including snacks. Most of us walk around a little dehydrated and dehydration can make you feel hungry when all your body really wants is water. Not only that when you drink 8 to 16 oz before any meal you will feel more satisfied and less hungry. Not to mention your body will digest your food better. 

 

Here’s a little trick for you to try to get a better understanding.

 

Take a 16 oz water bottle that is empty and place it in one hand and get the feeling of it in your hand.

 

Now fill that water bottle up and place it back in your hand. You should feel the weight difference. 

 

Imagine how full and satisfied your stomach will feel with that water in it before you eat.

 

So always remember water first!

 

Veggies!!

 

Always veggies most!!

 

I am a food junkie!! The more I can eat the better.

 

When it comes to veggies you can eat them in volumes because there are very few calories but not only that, they are packed with so many vitamins and nutrients your body needs.

 

Here’s the thing, when you get all your vital nutrients you have fewer cravings.

 

Along with your veggies, just make sure you are getting a lean protein source with it to help keep you fuller longer.

 

No carbs after lunch

 

This was something I had to wean myself into.

 

It was a learning process for sure.

 

The fact is we do need carbs for energy, but we don’t need them for dinner if you are like me and that is your downtime.

 

How many of us just sit after dinner?

 

We really aren’t expending any extra energy for our bodies to burn it off.

 

So unless you are doing an intense workout at night, try skipping the carbs.

 

Dinner and done

 

This is also a phrase I learned that has stuck with me.

 

Do we really need those snacks at night or is it just a habit?

 

A lot of times we are just tired and should just go to bed.

 

Think about this, we need 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night for our bodies to run properly.

 

Let’s say you are getting about 5 hours asleep at night so you are losing 2 to 3 hours a night which by the end of the week we have lost 10 to 15 hours of sleep. Add that up over time and that is a lot!!

 

In order for our bodies to keep our energy up when we are not getting enough sleep we crave food and mostly carbs because that is what gives us energy.

 

So when you start getting hungry at night try going to bed. Your body and soul will thank you for it!

 

Ditch The Diets

 

Even the word diet sparks a negative effect on the brain.  The feeling of restriction and can’t haves which makes us want food more.

 

You will hear me say this alot.  Diets don’t work!!  I have struggled with weight for years and was a chronic dieter which only made me more miserable.  We have to learn to love our bodies!!  Size doesn’t matter or the scale.

 

It’s about having a healthy  relationship with ourselves and food.  

 

It’s also about figuring out what works for your body!! What foods may be affecting you and your gut, hormones etc.  All our body chemistry is different.  Shoot for health! Not the ideals that people think you should be in.

 

Learn to love you and the beauty you give to the world because that is gold.
